Teaching Spaces - Display Screen Cleaning


Touch screens

This is applicable to the following devices:

What you’ll need

  1. 2 x Clean, dry microfibre cloths.
  2. Water spray bottle

Steps

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Gently dry-wipe with the microfiber cloth to remove dust.
  3. For smudges, lightly dampen the cloth (do not spray the screen; do not soak the cloth).
  4. Wipe gently in circular motions or top-to-bottom.
  5. Dry immediately with a dry part of the cloth to prevent streaks.

Avoid

  1. Spraying any liquid directly onto the screen.
  2. Ammonia based window cleaners (e.g. Windex).
  3. Isopropyl alcohol.
  4. Paper towels or abrasive pads.
  5. Pressing hard on the panel.

Large LCD displays (e.g. Samsung display)

What you’ll need

  1. 2 x Clean, dry microfibre cloths.
  2. Water spray bottle

Steps

  1. Turn off the display.
  2. Gently wipe the panel with a clean, dry, lint-free microfibre cloth to remove dust.
  3. For stubborn smudges, slightly dampen the cloth with water spray (do not spray the screen), then wipe gently.
  4. Dry immediately with a separate dry cloth.

Avoid

  1. Spraying any liquid directly onto the screen.
  2. Ammonia/window cleaners (e.g. Windex).
  3. Isopropyl alcohol.
  4. Paper towels or abrasive pads.
  5. Pressing hard on the panel.

Large touch interactive displays (SMART Boards, BenQ etc.)

What you’ll need

  1. 2 x Clean, dry microfibre cloths.
  2. Water spray bottle.
  3. Optional: screen-safe cleaner (ammonia-free) or 70% Isopropyl alcohol.

Daily cleaning (fingerprints & smudges)

  1. Dry-wipe the surface with the microfiber cloth until fingerprints lift.

Deep clean

  1. Turn off the display.
  2. Use a clean, soft microfiber cloth to remove dust and debris.
  3. Lightly spray the 70% isopropyl alcohol onto the cloth (never directly onto the screen or bezel).
  4. Wipe the screen gently in a circular or consistent motion (do not apply heavy pressure).
  5. Use the same damp cloth to wipe any accessories. IE. stylus, pens, and bezel (where applicable).
  6. Wipe off the remaining surfaces that one can normally touch, such as the bezel.
  7. Wait ~10 minutes for the alcohol to fully evaporate before turning the display back on.

Avoid

  2. Ammonia based window cleaners (e.g., Windex).
  3. Do not use ethanol, acetone, ammonia, or aerosol cleaners to protect the antimicrobial and anti-glare coatings.
  4. Paper towels or abrasive pads.
  5. Pressing hard on the panel.
