Monitor Setup

Step 1: Assembling The Stand

Open box

 Take out the top cushion and accessories.

 Leave monitor in box so stand can be mounted easily and without damaging screen

 Insert the three tabs on the upper part of the stand to the groove on the back of the monitor. Press the stand down until it snaps into place.

 Take base from box and insert the base towards the bottom of stand

 Tighten the thumbscrew by turning in clockwise direction

Stand up the monitor with both hands carefully.

Step 4: Extending Displays

Dell 3424WEB using Dell Display Manager

Dell monitors can access a feature called Easy Arrange which allows them to display as multiple displays. To access this feature, install "Dell Display Manager" from the Company Portal or Self-service for Mac OS devices by searching for the keyword "Dell". 

Extend, mirror display on Windows

Extend allows you to choose either your device/laptop as primary display and monitor as secondary or vice versa.

  1. Select Windows key and P select either to display
    • PC screen only to display only from the device, disconnecting the external monitor. 
    • Duplicate to display same content on both device and monitor.
    • Extend to display different content on both the laptop and external monitor.
    • Second screen only to only use the external monitor.

Configure Dell Display Manager on Windows

Multiple devices displayed.

To connect two devices and display on the Dell 3424WEB.

  1. Connect HDMI or DisplayPort to one device.
  2. Connect USB-C onto another device. e.g. Connecting MacBook Pro on USB-C and HDMI onto Deakin Managed Windows laptop. or vice versa. 
  3. Run Dell Display Manager, Easy Arrange (older version of DDM and newer version of DDM has different layout but same title)

4. Select layout that suits. e.g. 2 Windows. Wait for 20 seconds as changing layout will cause monitor to flicker to apply the layout.

 

Picture In Picture (PiP)

Displaying one input full screen and having the secondary in a smaller window is called Picture in Picture (PiP).

Setup PiP

  1. In Dell Display Manager > Input > PIP/PBP tab choose the option you prefer. 
  2. Toggle between positions changes the position of the smaller window, from top right, bottom right, bottom left, top left. 
  3. Video Swap swaps the source between the USB-C and HDMI/DisplayPort.

KVM

KVM allows two devices to use a single keyboard and mouse. 

  1. Connected both provided USB-C and USB 3.2 cables from monitor to each device.
  2. One via USB-C (shown on photo below, number 5) and the other, USB-3 (shown on photo below, number 6).
  3. Connect HDMI or DisplayPort to the second device. 

  1. Launch Dell Display Manager > KVM > USB KVM and follow the on-screen wizard/instructions.
  2. Optionally, you can configure hotkeys to quickly switch between input sources or KVM devices.

Configure DDPM on Mac

1. Launch DDPM

2. On the first run click Allow to allow DDPM camera access on mac accessibility. 

3. Toggle to allow DDPM in System Settings> Privacy & security > Accessibility.

3. Select the Easy Arrange tab and select the layout you'd like to use.

4. Click and drag the window you would like to use onto the screen, and you should see a yellow box indicating the segments on the screen. When it turns green drop the window onto that segment. or select a layout. The monitor will flicker for a few seconds before displaying the chosen configuration.

Mac Extend Display

  1. Click on the name of your monitor, and then click Use As.
  2. You may then adjust the display to either mirror or extend as necessary.

Dell P3424WEB webcam and audio features

Webcam

The Dell P3424WEB has a built-in webcam mounted atop the screen. When the monitor is set up from the box this webcam will be in privacy mode which will cause it not to be detected as an available camera on a connected machine. To enable the camera simply twist the shutter to open and tilt it forward. 

Soundbar

The Dell P3424WEB has a built sound bar for audio output. Whilst your device is connected via USB C you can select the built-in speakers as an audio output, it will be listed as DELL P3424WEB USB
