Logging into a Mac with Jamf Connect


When you receive a new Mac, or if your Mac is re-imaged, your login experience will change. Deakin Macs now have a new login experience using Jamf Connect.

Jamf Connect lets you log into a Deakin Mac when you're off-campus, even if you've never logged into it before. As long as internet access is available, you can log in using the same credentials you use for Office 365.

 


Once you log in, you still have a user folder, and you still have the same access privileges as before.

Logging in for the first time

  1. If you're on-campus, check the Wi-Fi widget to confirm your Mac has automatically connected to the eduroam network.
    If you're working from home, you may use a wired or Wi-Fi connection. For Wi-Fi, use the Wi-Fi widget to connect to your home network.



  2. At the "Sign in" screen, enter your full Deakin email address. Click Next.



  3. If you're prompted to choose between a "Work or school account" and a "Personal account", choose "Work or school account".



  4. You are redirected to Deakin's Single Sign On card. Enter your Deakin username and password.



  5. Complete Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) via the Duo app.



  6. Re-enter your Deakin password.



  7. Click Create Account.

You are logged into the computer.

A home folder is created, based on your Deakin email address. e.g. if your email address is firstname.lastname@deakin.edu.au, the home folder is called "firstname.lastname". To access your home folder, go to Finder, then click the Go menu then Home.

Sign into Microsoft OneDrive to sync your Desktop and Documents with the OneDrive sync service.

 

Subsequent Logins

Whenever you log out or restart the computer, you must log in again to resume work. Log in through the same Sign In screen as you originally did, including Multi-Factor Authentication. This ensures changes to your account, such as password changes and group memberships, are in sync between Deakin and your Mac.

 

Local Login

If you do not have a network connection (e.g. Wi-Fi is turned off) but have logged into the computer before, you can use the Local Login option. When no network connection is available, the standard Microsoft-branded login (aka "Organisational Login") automatically disappears and is replaced by the Local Login panel.

Note that Local Login does not sync changes to your account, such as password and group memberships, between Deakin and your Mac, so should only be used as a backup option.

  1. Enter your username and password. Your username should be entered as your email address without the "@deakin.edu.au".
        e.g. If your full Deakin email address is "firstname.lastname@deakin.edu.au", enter the username "firstname.lastname"

  2. Click Log In.

Connect to a network and the normal Organisational Login screen returns.

 

Changing your password

When you change your password, it may take up to an hour to propagate fully through all of Deakin's systems.

 

I'm having trouble!

If you've just changed your password, it may take up to an hour to propagate fully through all of Deakin's systems.

If you're having difficulty with the new login window:

  1. Connect to a network.
        If you're at home, use the Wi-Fi connection widget to connect to your home Wi-Fi network.
        If you're on-campus, confirm Wi-Fi is connected to eduroam. If it isn't, turn off Wi-Fi, wait a few moments, then turn it back on. It will automatically join.
  2. Make sure the Local Login is not shown.
  3. Click the Refresh button. The login window is returned to its original state.
  4. Try logging in again.
  5. If you are still having difficulty, click Restart.

If you're still having difficulty after performing the steps above, use the Wi-Fi widget to turn off Wi-Fi. Use the Local Login option to log in (see above).
