This knowledge article has been provided as a "Best Practice" Guide for authoring content specifically for OneLAN's "Software on Chip" (SOC) signage solution currently running on Samsung panels around Deakin University.
The information provided is supplied directly from the Vendor OneLAN. Instead of re-authoring the entire content of the article here it will be supplied as an attachment to this knowledge article.
The "SoC" solution running on Samsung panels has a lesser feature set and limited compatibility with certain formats and media types when compared to a OneLAN native signage player. These should be taken into account when building content for these players.
Note: This article does not provide training in content authoring with the CMS itself. There is specific training required to familiarise users with the OneLAN CMS interface. |
By far the simplest and best way to ensure your images are not only technically compliant with OneLAN, but to also ensure that they are branded correctly with Deakin Marketing colour schemes and logos is to use the web tool Outfit.
Outfit has a number of templates available specifically for digital signage that can be simply used and tailored to your needs. It also provides access to the Deakin Asset library for royalty free and pre-approved images.

You can display several image formats with the player.
Zone player type to enable: Image.
Note: Large images may take several seconds to appear and may slow down the performance of the player. Always resize an image to match the size of the zone before uploading it. |
Playlist tab containing the item: Files & Folders.
Additional notes:
Supported Format |
Notes |
---|---|
PNG |
Recommended. Good quality and supports transparency. |
JPG |
Recommended. Edges can blur and does not look good when shown on a large screen. |
GIF |
Can look very grainy. Only supports 256 colours but does support transparency. The player does not support animated GIFs. To use an animated GIF, first embed it into an HTML page. |
BMP |
Large file size but no loss of quality. |
You can play various video formats with the player.
Zone player type to enable: Movie.
By default, you can enable up to two movie zones. To enable more requires an additional license and the maximum number is dependent on the player model. For best performance, only enable one movie zone per layout on less powerful player models.
Playlist tab containing the item: Files & Folders.
To help you identify a particular video, the CMS displays a thumbnail image from it. That appears in the Filename column of the Files & Folders display (and in the Media column when you add the video to the playlist). The CMS displays the icon if it cannot render a thumbnail.
