With Deakin Desktop for Windows, you no longer use your short Deakin username (e.g. jdoe) to log into managed Windows computers. Instead, your Windows account name is based on your primary email address.
If your primary email address is an @deakin.edu.au address, you use the first part of your email address, without the @deakin.edu.au suffix. There are a few different examples of how your primary email address may be constructed:
If your primary email address is an @deakinco.com address, you must enter your full email address, including the @deakinco.com suffix.
On your first logon, you are prompted to setup Windows Hello.
Windows Hello is an alternative to Duo MFA where you'll set up a numeric PIN and, optionally, facial or fingerprint recognition.
Note: Facial recognition and fingerprint options require a compatible camera or fingerprint reader hardware.
Once face or fingerprint has been setup or skipped, you need to setup a PIN.
You must complete DUO MFA authentication to set your PIN.
Your PIN must be a minimum of 6 non-sequential digits.
If you move to another computer, you must setup Windows Hello again. Additional users on this computer need to complete the Windows Hello setup for their account.
Windows Hello is not available on Deakin Windows Teaching Space Computers.
After you have setup Windows Hello on a computer, if you restart or log off your computer, Windows will remember the last logged in user.
If you setup facial or fingerprint recognition use these to complete sign in. Otherwise, enter your PIN.
If you have not been prompted to setup Windows Hello, manually set it up by following the instructions at Windows Hello on Deakin Desktop - Windows 11
The first time you log into a staff Deakin Desktop for Windows computer, an introductory Welcome screen appears.
This screen helps explain changes to your environment compared to Deakin's previous Windows 10-based environment.
To navigate between tips, click the Next button in the bottom right of the page. Some tips include videos.
Note: If you've just logged in for the first time, it may take a few minutes for the Company Portal app to be ready for use to install additional software. If Company Portal displays a "Not Compliant" message, close it, wait a few minutes then open Company Portal again.
The Welcome screen only appears during your first login. However, you can return to it by opening the Welcome to Deakin Desktop icon in the Start (Windows logo) menu.
