What is a study period?

In almost all contexts at Deakin University, the term 'study period' is used to describe the period of time specified by a faculty for the completion of units for a particular course (e.g. Trimester 1). Deakin has a number of different types of study periods, depending on your course (such as trimesters or semesters) but most courses go by the trimester system.

Important dates

However, within the University Handbook important dates webpage lists, the dates marked as ‘study period’ (e.g. 'Trimester 1 study period') following when the teaching period ends, are the week of private study given to students before exams or end of unit assessment tasks begin (sometimes referred to as 'SWOT Vac' or 'Study Without Teaching Vacation'). There are no unit activities scheduled during this time. It is recommended you take advantage of this time to prepare for your exams or end of unit assessment tasks.
