As a staff member or student of Deakin, you have free access to the Office 365 suite on your personal device.
Please see the following article to How do I download and install Microsoft Office? (Windows)

If you have an older version of Microsoft Office installed, please remove it completely before installing Office 365 as seen here.

Accessing Deakin Data

Accessing Deakin Emails

Whether you are trying to access your Deakin home drive files or accessing a network share drive that your area uses, you will need to connect to the VPN and map the drive in Windows here.

There are multiple ways to access your Deakin emails without a Deakin machine. Emails are accessible via OWA (Outlook Web App)  or by adding your email address to your Outlook application.

To add your Deakin email to Outlook for Windows, please see this guide.

To add a shared mailbox to Outlook for Windows, please see this guide.

If you are experiencing problems with searching your emails, being unable to open Outlook or any strange instabilities, you may have a damaged profile.

To create a new one, please see this guide. If a new profile is created, any shared mailboxes or archives will need to be re-added.

Commonly Used Windows Software

Browser Troubleshooting

Deakin offers software and installation guides for its staff and students. Some of the most commonly required software for Mac users can be found linked below.

Are you seeing error messages in your browser when trying to load a web page? Are search results slower than normal? You may be experiencing cache related problems.

Luckily, it is very simple to clear your cache and get back on track. Please see the following guide for clearing your history, cookies and cache.

Administrator Account Creation

Improving performance of your Windows PC

If your windows computer has multiple users, you should set up an account for each person so each can personalise settings and options without affecting the others. You can let occasional users log in as guests without access to other users’ files or settings; this can only be done as an administrator.

An administrator can add and manage other users, install apps, and change system settings, so it is always beneficial to use an administrator account for study or work.

For a how-to guide on creating an admin account or converting a standard account, please see the following Microsoft article here..
