Cisco AnyConnect (VPN) – Installation & Usage Instructions (iOS)

This article will demonstrate how to install and use Cisco AnyConnect VPN, which is required to access certain shared drives or services required by Deakin.

Note: Cisco AnyConnect automatically disconnects after a continuous period of inactivity, or if your computer is turned off/sleeps. You will need to re-log in to reconnect to required services.

Installation Instructions

  1. Launch the App Store store, and search for "AnyConnect". The first app that appears will usually be AnyConnect, however, make sure that it is published by New Cisco AnyConnect.

    Note: It is very important that you do not download any programs attempting to impersonate Cisco, or AnyConnect as a product. If you are unsure which app to download, please contact the IT Service Desk.


    In the App Store, search and install "Cisco AnyConnect"

  2. When the installation is complete, tap OPEN to launch Cisco AnyConnect.

  3. Tap Allow

    When prompted for allowing AnyConnect to send you notifications, press "Allow"

Using Cisco AnyConnect

Note: VPN services require you to use Multi Factor Authentication (MFA).

 

  1. Tap the on/off tab next to AnyConnect VPN, to turn the VPN on.

    In the settings menu for AnyConnect Mobile, toggle the "AnyConnect VPN" setting


  2. Enter the Server Address:

    If you’re working from home or from a trusted network, type vpn.deakin.edu.au/unencrypted and tap Save.

    If you’re working overseas or from an unknown network (like public Wi-Fi), type vpn.deakin.edu.au/encrypted and tap Save.

  3. Tap Allow

     When prompted to add VPN configurations, tap "Allow"

  4. Enter your personal iPhone passcode when prompted.

    When prompted, enter your phone's passcode

    5. Tap the on/off tab next to AnyConnect VPN to turn the VPN on.

    Once finished, whenever you toggle the "AnyConnect VPN" button, you will be connected to Deakin's VPN via either the Encrypted, or Unencrypted network (as set in your Connections field)

    6. You now need to enter your Deakin username and password.

    Note: All Deakin staff and students are required to use MFA (Multi-factor Authentication) with Duo Mobile. 




    7. As a Deakin Staff/Student, or anyone using MFA with Duo Mobile, you will be required to choose 'Send Me a Push' or 'Enter a Passcode' on the DUO login page.

    Open your Duo Mobile app, click confirm or get your passcode.

     


    Duo Mobile Users:
    To get your passcode, tap the drop-down menu for the Deakin University entry to reveal a 6-digit security code. 




    8. You’ll be able to tell that you are connected to the VPN, when ‘Connected’ appears, as shown below.

    When the word "Connected" appears in the Details field, your device will have connected to Deakin VPN successfully

    As a Deakin staff/students' member, or anyone using MFA with Duo Mobile, you will be required to choose 'Send Me a Push' or 'Enter a Passcode' on the DUO login page.

    Open your Duo Mobile app, click confirm or get your passcode. If you need to disconnect, simply tap the toggle button beside AnyConnect VPN.
