Using recommended tools ensures that Digital Services can assist if you run into an issue. If you use a tool that's not recommended or supported, we may not be able to help and advise you to switch to one of the recommended ones.

On Digital Services-managed computers, some apps are pre-installed and automatically updated, while others can be installed from Software Center (on Windows) or Self Service (on Mac).

For personal devices, these apps can be downloaded via the Deakin University Software Library.

Recommended browsers

• Microsoft Edge (Windows or Mac) - Deakin's preferred browser. Microsoft Edge is automatically installed and updated on Digital Services-managed computers and integrates with Microsoft 365.
• Safari (Mac only) - preinstalled with macOS and updated via macOS updates.
  
  These alternative modern browsers will work with most of the University's systems but may exhibit unexpected behaviour in certain circumstances.
• Google Chrome (Windows or Mac) - secondary preferred.
• Mozilla Firefox (Windows or Mac)

Ensure your browser is configured to automatically check for updates.

Microsoft Internet Explorer is retired and not to be used.

• Acrobat Reader - view and print PDF files
• 7-Zip - expand compressed files
• Horizon Client - access virtual apps hosted by Deakin.
