How to install and set up Syncplicity desktop client?

Note: Before you install the desktop client you will need an identity in the Syncplicity system.  This can achieved through creating a "Sync and Share" collection in the Research Data Store. For information on how to do this, refer to this knowledge article.

Installing Syncplicity on a managed Windows Desktop 2.0 computer

Note: Please be advised that these instructions are for Deakin managed PCs running Windows 11/Desktop 2.0. If you have your own PC, then you can download and install Syncplicity straight from the Syncplicity website. Instructions for that can be found on the Syncplicity support website (Windows or Mac).

 

  1. Click on Start and open the Company Portal (if the Company Portal icon is not pinned, search for the app or find it in the list of installed apps by selecting All >)



  2. In Company Portal, Search for Syncplicity using the search bar at the top of the window.

    Note: It will only appear if you haven't already installed it. If software is already installed, it will appear when you search for Syncplicity from Start menu




  3. Select Syncplicity, then press Install. This will prompt the install to occur:



    This will install Syncplicity on your Deakin machine.

Setting up Syncplicity on a Windows computer

Once installed, please follow the below guide to set it up.

  1. After the installing Syncplicity, open the application and login using Single Sign On (SSO) by checking the box and entering your Deakin email address. 

    Note: Please enter your full email address, for staff this would be generally firstname.lastname@deakin.edu.au; For Students: username@deakin.edu.au



  2. If you are on a managed Windows PC, you will then be prompted to authenticate with DUO. If you are on a personal Windows machine, you will first be prompted to sign in using your Deakin account password followed by authentication with DUO.

  3. Once you have logged in, Syncplicity will ask you where you want to place the syncing folder on your local computer.



  4. If you already have folders and files set up in your Syncplicity account, you will be asked if you want to sync these to your local computer.

    Note: Any folders you sync to your local device will use your local storage.

Installing Syncplicity on Mac

  1. To download on a Mac, click on the following link. (This will automatically prompt the download to occur). 

  2. Open the downloaded file, Click on Install and then follow the prompts to complete the installation

  3. Drag the Syncplicity icon into the Applications folder

Setting up on Mac

Once the client is installed, you will then need to link it to your Deakin sponsored account as per below 

    1. Double click on Syncplicity in the Applications folder



    2. Select the "Corporate Account" tab and enter your full email address.

      Note: Please enter your full email address, for staff this would be generally firstname.lastname@deakin.edu.au; For Students: username@deakin.edu.au
    3. A new window will open prompting you to sign in with your Deakin username and password

    4. Once successfully logged in, you will be asked where to put the Syncplicity folder on your computer. In most cases it will be fine to accept the default settings. Then press "Next"




    5. If you already have Syncplicity collections, you will be prompted to select the collections to sync to this mac.

    6. A drive called "Syncplicity" should now appear on the left-hand sidebar when you launch Finder.




 

Troubleshooting

When attempting to log-in under the Corporate Account tab, it says that I do not have a valid email address

If this is the case, it is probably because you have yet to create a Sync and Share collection in the Research Data Store and therefore do not have an account on Syncplicity.
